Non-Critical Source unprotected and subject to contamination

The soil at the base of well head is not mounded to divert water away from the source, and vegetation is overgrown around the well head.

Corrective Actions: Please ensure the soil is sloped away from the well head and clear the overgrown vegetation surrounding the well head.

Non-Critical Inadequate Chemical Analysis Data

The last chemical analysis was submitted in 2019. Vancouver Island Health Authority requires the untreated source water quality parameters to be analyzed at least once every five years unless otherwise directed by the Drinking Water Officer.

Corrective Actions: Please select and contact an approved laboratory from the attached list to request for a chemical analysis by the due date mentioned below. The test package must comply with the minimum requirement list from Vancouver Island Health Authority. Information is sent with report.

Maintenance items such as the cartridge filter change, mixing a new batch of chlorine, and chlorine residuals must be recorded. - Annual report of current year will be reported before June 30th of the following year. Water results can be checked at: https://inspections.myhealthdepartment.com/island-health/program-drinking-water-sample/ DESCRIPTION: The well (plate # 13563) is a shallow well located near the gate. There are seven connections serving a population of over 1000 people. The seven connections are: the office, care-taker residence, front washrooms, kitchen, and three water taps. 1. GOVERNANCE: There is no change in ownership, but water operator has changed. 2. SOURCE: Shallow drilled well of 30 feet below ground level and static water level at 22 feet. A pitless adaptor is installed. Stick up is 4 inches high. 3. STORAGE: Only 2200 gallons black cistern is used for drinking and located in a locked shed. The black cistern was cleaned in 2025. Water in the black cistern flow into the green cistern in the adjacent shed. One way valve is installed between black and green cisterns. The green (1800 gallons) and two outside brown cisterns provide water for fire-fighting. 4. TREATMENT AND DISINFECTION: Chlorine is added to a black coloured cistern through a chlorinator. Chlorine concentration tested during the inspection was 0.32ppm at the black cistern connection. 5. WATER QUALITY MONITORING: Monthly sample results meet standard with LT1 for both total coliform and E. coli. Drinking water test kit is available in the office. 6. ADMINISTRATION AND MAINTENANCE: Filling for water haulers is temporary discontinued until further notice. Coin operated filling station is still operating.
