Comments
System Description: Routine Inspection was conducted on site with the Water System Owner. The water system supplies 2 private residences and a Food Processor (Bakery), 3 connections total. Water System Info/General Observations: Source is a deep well (estimated greater than 117 feet depth) with no well log. The well head is enclosed inside a rectangular concrete box, outside a storage building. The lid is made of heavy concrete and could not be lifted at the time of inspection. Water goes directly to the buildings without treatment. There is no storage cistern on site. Please ensure routine annual maintenance includes lifting the concrete cover and inspecting this concrete box, ensuring there is no accumulation of water, leaf litter or other debris around the well head. As there is no well log available, there is no confirmation whether there is a surface seal. Facility Operator Training: Small Water Systems Operator Training Course is recommended. However, the operator has been in contact with third party contractor to maintain/operate the system in the past, including emergency repairs as needed. Water samples: Bacteriological samples have been submitted monthly and is up to date. Recent results have been satisfactory with no total coliforms. Bacteriological results in the spring between March and July have shown some total coliforms in the past, indicating some potential contamination. Ensure annual spring maintenance includes flushing and cleaning of taps, inspecting for leaks and shocking the system to remove potential contamination. Chemical water samples in the past (2015 and 2012 have been satisfactory) with no exceedances according to the Canadian Drinking Water Quality Guidelines. Administration: A partial Emergency Response and Contingency Plan (ERCP) was submitted in February 2025 to update contact information. There are no completed ERCPs on file. A template can be provided, please send an updated copy to our office. Include a copy in your office and/or pump room in case of emergencies to aid in response. A Groundwater At Risk of Pathogens assessment will be completed to assess the aquifer and well source water if one has not yet been completed in the past. Based on the risk level of the raw water supply, additional treatment components may be required. Please ensure that the well is registered with Water Licensing as per the Water Sustainability Act. Information on Water Licensing is available here: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/environment/air-land-water/water/water-licensing-rights/water-licences-approvals.
