Description: A licensee must not employ a person in a community care facility as an educator or an assistant unless the person holds a valid certificate issued under Division 2 [Employee Qualifications], which must be verified by the licensee using a system established and maintained by the director of the early childhood educator registry

Observations: Licensing audited nine staff files and observed one had a letter from the ECE Registry dated 2007 stating they had met the requirement of an assistant under section 11(c) of the Child Care Licensing Regulations. The staff member did not have a current certificate in the last five years and was in ratio with the children as an ECEA.
