Description: A licensee must ensure that water accessible to a person in care, from any source, is not heated to more than 49° Celsius.

Observations: Licensing measured the temperature of the hot water in both bathrooms for persons in care and both were measured at 56 degrees Celsius. This represents an immediate safety risk to the health and safety of persons in care and must be corrected immediately. A plan for corrective action was provided which included notification to appropriate staff was conducted who will address the issue, and staff have been advised to monitor a person in care who can access hot water independently until the hot water has been corrected to less than 49 degrees Celsius. Full compliance will not be achieved until the plan has been implemented and the completed.

Description: A licensee must ensure that a person in care’s medication is returned to the dispensing pharmacy if the expiry date on the medication has passed.
Corrective Actions Required: Ensure that if the expiry date of a person in care's medication has passed, the medication is returned to the pharmacy.

Observations: Licensing audited the medication cabinet and observed five expired medications.
