A licensee must operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote the health, safety and dignity of persons in care
Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined that a staff did not demonstrate the skills and abilities to carry out the duties as assigned.
Corrective action: Ensure that the community care facility is operated in a manner that promotes the health, safety and dignity of persons in care, Specifically, that all staff have the character and skills necessary to carry out the duties assigned. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to this contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On August 25, 2022, Licensee submitted a corrective action plan to Licensing. The corrective action plan included: a detailed education plan for staff was submitted related to code of conduct, person in care's rights, safety, person centered care, culture and diversity, working with dementia, and caring for persons in care with dignity and respect, and Person Centered Care Education and two staff completed a written summary and provided education to their peers on Person Centered Care. This plan was ongoing and was monitored by management and nursing staff. This corrective action plan was reviewed and accepted by Licensing. Licensing confirmed this corrective action plan had been implemented between September 5 and October 31, 2022.
A licensee must ensure that a person in care is not, while under the care or supervision of the licensee subjected to any of the following types of abuse or neglect, as described in section 1 of Schedule D: emotional abuse
Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined that a staff had subjected a person in care to emotional abuse.
Corrective action: Ensure that a person in care is not, while under the care or supervision of the licensee, subjected to emotional abuse. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On August 25, 2022, Licensee submitted a corrective action plan to Licensing. The corrective action plan included: all staff were to communicate in an appropriate manner to persons in care, families, staff, and managers, Health Care Aides (HCAs) were to ensure their actions, body language, and conversations were supportive of a positive work environment and were to ensure they adhered to best practices related to person centered care, cultural diversity and person in care's rights, education was provided to staff that actions, body language and communication were supportive of an abuse and neglect free environment, a detailed education plan for staff was submitted to Licensing related to code of conduct, person in care's rights, safety, person centered care, culture and diversity, working with dementia, and caring for persons in care with dignity and respect. This plan was ongoing and monitored by Management and Nursing staff. This corrective action plan was reviewed and accepted by Licensing. Licensing confirmed that this corrective action plan had been implemented.
