A licensee must operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote the health, safety and dignity of persons in care
Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined that staff had not ensured the hand hygiene of a person in care.
Corrective action: Ensure that the facility is operated in a manner that promotes the health, safety and dignity of a person in care. Specifically, that their hand hygiene is completed when required. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On September 21, 2022, education was to be provided to staff between September 26 and October 7, 2022 on hand hygiene, Dementia and behaviours, and nurses were to check that hand hygiene was completed on persons in care. This corrective action plan was reviewed and accepted by Licensing.
A licensee must ensure that a person in care is not, while under the care or supervision of the licensee subjected to any of the following types of abuse or neglect, as described in section 1 of Schedule D: emotional abuse
Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined that a visitor had raised their voice in the presence of persons in care.
Corrective action: Ensure that a person in care is not, while under the care and supervision of the licensee subjected to emotional abuse. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On September 21, 2022, Licensee submitted a corrective action plan to Licensing. The corrective action plan included: the person in care's care plan was updated to remove them from any source of emotional abuse, a memo was sent to all staff regarding the process if a visitor was disruptive in the facility and on September 19 and 23, 2022, leadership met with the visitor and discussed Resident Bill of Rights, Visitors Code of Conduct, Visitor access to persons in care and supervised visits if these expectations were not met. This corrective action plan was reviewed and accepted by Licensing.
