A licensee must operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote the health, safety and dignity of persons in care
Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined that the community care facility was not operated in a manner that promoted the health, safety and dignity of persons in care. Specifically, that the garden/smoking area environment was unsafe for persons in care in regards to walkway lighting and distance from facility/staff without monitoring or an emergency call system.
Corrective action: Ensure that that community care facility is operated in a manner that will promote the health, safety and dignity of persons in care. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to this contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On January 10, 2022, Licensee submitted a corrective action plan to Licensing. This corrective action plan included: brighter pathway lighting and motion sensors would be installed outside the access door to the garden area and above the smoking area by January 7 and 14, 2022 respectively. Additionally, persons in care would be provided with emergency call pendants, linked to the call bell system, when they went outside to the smoking area by January 22, 2022. This corrective action plan was reviewed and accepted by Licensing. Licensing to review and monitor this corrective action plan. On January 25, February 3 and 25, 2022, Licensing received email from the Licensee that lighting and motion sensors had been installed and an additional door alarm on the door that accessed the garden area, but that the pendants had not arrived yet. On March 30, 2022 Licensing received an email that confirmed that the emergency pendants had arrived.
