A licensee must ensure that behavioural guidance is appropriate to the age and development of the child who is receiving the guidance,
Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined the staff had not provided guidance appropriate to the age and development of the child.
Corrective action: Ensure that behavioral guidance was appropriate to the age and development of the child receiving the guidance. Action(s) Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to the contravention. Action(s) Required by Licensing: On March 5, 2024, Licensee Contact, submitted a corrective action plan to Licensing. The corrective action plan included training for staff: starting January 2024 and on going, staff training in understanding lateral violence in their communities, staff would attend Feb 9-10, 2024 BCACCS annual conference for professional development; March 18-22, 2024, staff training week specific to Child Care Licensing Regulations and facility policy related to behavioral guidance practices, in addition, staff would be provided opportunities to learn about holistic self care, spiritual, physical, mental and emotional and how to best support each other in the role of a care provider; on April 29, 2024, Aboriginal Head Start Association of British Columbia (AHSABC) representative would facilitate implementation of "The LOVIT Way" tolls, developed by AHSABC to engage community in their own growth, providing a platform for staff to gain skills in building relationships; Elders were introduced in each of the programs Monday and Thursday mornings to guide, ground and support guidance as per the Snuneymuxw First nation (SFN) core values such as love, respect, kindness cooperation, honesty and generosity, and Spring Break training would be followed by staff accountability confirmation, they had participated and integrated the information provided in the training from January to present. The corrective action plan was reviewed and accepted by Licensing. On April 19, 2024, Licensee Contact provided a summary of completed corrective action plan items which indicated in part: Staff confirmation signed summary indicating they each had participated and agreed to improve their role as a caregiver and chose to follow childcare policies and standards based on their learning through the corrective action plan.
