A licensee must ensure that a child, while under the care or supervision of the licensee, is not subjected to any of the following: (c) harsh, belittling or degrading treatment by an employee or another child, whether verbal, emotional or physical, that could humiliate the child or undermine the child’s self respect
Observation: Through the investigation process Licensing determined the Licensee raised their voice at a child in care.
Corrective action: Ensure that a child, while in care, is not subjected to any of the following: (c) harsh, belittling or degrading treatment by an employee or another child, whether verbal, emotional or physical, that could humiliate the child or undermine the child’s self respect. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On March 23, 2022, the Licensee submitted a corrective action plan stating they had registered in online training for challenging behaviours and would submit completion of the training by April 8, 2022. Licensing reviewed and accepted this corrective action plan. On April 16, 2022, Licensee submitted proof of completion of the online training.
The licensee must develop the care plan in consultation,with a parent of the child requiring extra support and any person requested by the parent.
Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined a child in care who required a care plan did not have one in place.
Corrective action: Ensure to develop a care plan in consultation with a parent of the child requiring extra support. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to develop a corrective action plan specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On March 23, 2022, Licensee submitted a corrective action plan to Licensing which stated the child in care requiring a care plan was no long attending and going forward the facility would draft care plans when needed and provide them to the family to discuss and review. Licensing reviewed and accepted this corrective action plan. At the June 28, 2022, Routine Inspection it was confirmed the corrective action plan was being followed.
A licensee must do all of the following:(b) operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote the health, safety and dignity of persons in care
Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing identified that the Licensee did not demonstrate the skills necessary to carry out the duties assigned.
Corrective action: Ensure to operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote the health, safety and dignity of persons in care. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On March 23, 2022, the Licensee submitted a corrective action plan specific to the contravention. The corrective action plan included the Licensee taking online training regarding challenging behaviours, which would be completed by April 8, 2022. This corrective action plan has been reviewed and approved by Licensing. On April 16, 2022, the Licensee submitted proof of completion of online training.
A licensee must ensure that children are supervised at all times by a person who is an educator, an assistant or a responsible adult.
Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing observed that the Licensee had not ensured that transfer of care occurred when a child left the facility before the school bell had rung for the start of school.
Corrective action: Ensure that children are supervised at all times by a person who is a responsible adult. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On March 23, 2022, the Licensee submitted a corrective action plan that included updating the supervision policy. Licensing reviewed and accepted this corrective action plan. On November 10, 2022 Licensing received an updated supervision plan stating care is no longer provided in the mornings and staff do not work alone in the afternoon.
