3010 - CCALA 7(1)(b)(i) 
 

A licensee must operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote the health, safety and dignity of persons in care

Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined that the facility was not operated in a manner that promoted the health, safety and dignity of persons in care. Specifically, a staff member did not demonstrate the skills necessary to carry out the duties assigned when they ate a person in care's food that was purchased by the person in care.

Corrective action: Ensure that the community care facility is operated in a manner that will promote the health, safety and dignity of persons in care. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On May 1, 2024, Licensee submitted a corrective action plan to Licensing. The corrective action plan included: a staff member was given a three-day suspension and warning letter on April 19, 2024 and on April 26, 2024, the staff member resigned from their position, a staff meeting was held on March 19, 2024 to review the staff and visitor policy and code of ethics in which each staff signed off and initialed, staff were advised that at no time were they were to eat food belonging to the persons in care, the Manager would review the home procedure manual with all staff and all staff were to complete a learning course reviewing the company's rights and values statement, code of ethics and addressing conflict and incident reporting policies by May 30, 2024. The corrective action plan was reviewed and accepted by Licensing. On June 7, 2024 Licensing received confirmation from the Licensee that all educations was completed.

A licensee must do all of the following: ensure that policies are implemented by employees.

Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined that a policy was not implemented by an employee.

Corrective action: Ensure that all policies are implemented by employees. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On May 1, 2024, Licensee submitted a corrective action plan to Licensing. The corrective action plan included: a staff member was met with on March 13, 2024 to review the staff and visitors policy, the staff member was given a three-day suspension and warning letter on April 19, 2024, a staff meeting was held on March 19, 2024 to review the staff and visitor policy and code of ethics in which each staff signed off and initialed, the Manager would review the home procedure manual with all staff and all staff were to complete a learning course reviewing the company's rights and values statement, code of ethics and addressing conflict and incident reporting policies by May 30, 2024.
