A licensee must operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote the health, safety and dignity of persons in care
Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined that the facility was not operated in a manner that promoted the health, safety and dignity of persons in care. Specifically, a staff member did not demonstrate the skills necessary to carry out the duties assigned.
Corrective action: Ensure that the community care facility is operated in a manner that will promote the health, safety and dignity of persons in care. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On February 9, 2024 Licensee submitted a corrective action plan to Licensing. The corrective action plan included a staff member received a written warning on July 21, 2023, and was required to complete education and review of policies by February 28, 2024. On February 26, 2024, the Licensee requested an extension for the education and policy review to be completed until March 8, 2024. In addition, three monthly follow up meetings were to be conducted with the staff member ending on May 31, 2024. The corrective action plan was reviewed and accepted by Licensing. On March 5, 2024 Licensing received copies of all completed education by the staff.
Subject to subsection (3), if a person in care is involved in a reportable incident, the licensee must immediately notify a medical health officer, in the form and in the manner required by the medical health officer
Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined that the medical health officer was not informed of a reportable incident that a person in care was involved in.
Corrective action: Ensure that if a person in care is involved in a reportable incident, the Licensee must immediately notify a medical health officer, in the form and in the manner required by the medical health officer. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On February 9, 2024 Licensee submitted a corrective action plan to Licensing. The corrective action plan included the Manager and Director of Care completed an education session regarding incident reporting with Licensing by February 29, 2024. In addition, an online incident reporting course was to be completed by the Manager and Director of Care by February 20, 2024. The corrective action plan was reviewed and accepted by Licensing. On February 28, 2024, Licensing conducted the incident reporting information session and on March 5, 2024 received copies of all completed education.
A licensee must ensure that a person in care is not, while under the care or supervision of the licensee subjected to any of the following types of abuse or neglect, as described in section 1 of Schedule D: physical abuse
Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined that a person in care was subjected to physical abuse.
Corrective action: Ensure that a person in care is not, while under the care and supervision of the licensee, subjected to physical abuse. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On February 9, 2024 Licensee submitted a corrective action plan to Licensing.
