A licensee must ensure that a person in care is not, while under the care or supervision of the licensee subjected to any of the following types of abuse or neglect, as described in section 1 of Schedule D: emotional abuse
Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined that a person in care was subjected to emotional abuse.
Corrective action: Ensure that a person in care is not, while under the care or supervision of the licensee, subjected to emotional abuse. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On September 19, 2023, Licensee submitted a corrective action plan to Licensing. The corrective action plan included: guidelines for appropriate behavior in the home would be posted in the home, as well as shared with applicable stakeholders by September 15, 2023, a visitor would be required to schedule visits to the home with the Manager to not impact other persons in care, visits by the visitor would take place in a private area, a letter was sent to a visitor outlining visitation protocols that must be followed by September 15, 2023 and staff were trained to recognize emotional abuse when involving visitors by September 18, 2023. This corrective action plan was reviewed and accepted by Licensing. On September 19, 2023, Licensing received a copy of the letter sent to the visitor, as well as a staff sign-off sheet for emotional abuse training.
Subject to subsection (3), if a person in care is involved in a reportable incident, the licensee must immediately notify a medical health officer, in the form and in the manner required by the medical health officer
Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined that the licensee did not immediately notify a medical health officer, in the form and in the manner required by the medical health officer, about a reportable incident.
Corrective action: Ensure that if a person in care is involved in a reportable incident, the licensee immediately notifies a medical health officer, in the form and in the manner required by the medical health officer. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On September 19, 2023, Licensee submitted a corrective action plan to Licensing. The corrective action plan included: staff were trained to recognize reportable incidents by September 18, 2023, staff were aware of the process for completing and submitting Incident Reports to Licensing, and the facility would ensure staff were aware of alternative contacts that would be available should a reportable incident occur in the case of the Manager's absence by September 18, 2023, there was a meeting with the Manager and staff regarding reportable incident types with scenarios presented and the Manager created a document for staff outlining where to find Incident Report forms, how to complete them, and who to send them to. On September 19, 2023,Licensign received a copy of the staff sign-off sheet for incident report training.
