A licensee must ensure that a person in care is not, while under the care or supervision of the licensee subjected to any of the following types of abuse or neglect, as described in section 1 of Schedule D: neglect
Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined that the licensee did not ensure that a person in care, while under the care or supervision of the licensee, subjected to neglect.
Corrective action: Ensure that a person in care is not, while under the care or supervision of the licensee subjected to neglect. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On April 11, 2024, Licensee submitted a corrective action plan to Licensing. The corrective action plan included Ensure to operate the community care facility in a manner that will promote the health, safety, and dignity of persons in care. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On April 11, 2024, Licensee submitted a corrective action plan. The corrective action plan included the staff would not work in the Long Term Care unit for three months, was required meet 1:1 weekly, was to complete training related to care planning, choking, dementia and dementia care, documentation standards, dysphasia, and food safety principle, was to demonstrate proper techniques to assist a person in care who are at risk of choking, with sign off by charge nurse, programming was reviewed with respect to risk management; and all group recreation programming involving food would have two recreation aides present. This corrective action plan was reviewed and accepted by Licensing. On June 10 and 14, 2024, Licensing received evidence that the education modules were complete, a memo had been sent out regarding baking program safety protocols, a document for evaluating program risks was developed, a copy of the first aid certificate for the staff and a statement from the Manager and a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) that the staff had been able to demonstrate with confidence the ability to provide first aide for choking.
