A licensee must ensure that food and drink are not used as a form of reward or punishment for children.
Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined that a staff had used food as a form of punishment.
Corrective action: Ensure, that food and drink are not used as a form of reward or punishment. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On June 29, July 4, 6, and 12, 2023, Licensee submitted a corrective action plan to Licensing. The corrective action plan included that a staff member was no longer working at the facility and all staff members were notified that food was not be to be used as a form of reward or punishment. The corrective action plan was reviewed and accepted by Licensing. On May 1, 2023 Licensing received notice that the staff member had been dismissed and on May 2, 2023 all staff were notified that food was not to be used as a reward or punishment.
A licensee must ensure that a child, while under the care or supervision of the licensee, is not subjected to confinement or physical restraint by an employee, except as authorized in a child care plan if the plan includes instructions respecting behavioural guidance.
Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined that staff had physically restrained children during meal times.
Corrective action: Ensure that children in care are not subjected to physical restraint by an employee, except as authorized in a child care plan if the plan includes instructions respecting behavior guidance. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On June 29, July 4, 6, and 12, 2023, Licensee submitted a corrective action plan to Licensing. The corrective action plan included each staff member was notified on the behavioral strategies to be used during meal times and daily observations of staff and program activities were conducted. The corrective action plan was reviewed and accepted by Licensing. Licensing to review and monitor this corrective action plan.

Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined that the staff did not demonstrate the skills necessary to carry out the duties assigned. Specifically, staff did not use appropriate behavioral guidance with children in care.
Corrective action: Ensure the community care facility is operated in a manner that will promote the health, safety and dignity of persons in care, specifically regarding suitability of staff members. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On June 29, July 4, 6, and 12, 2023, Licensee submitted a corrective action plan to Licensing. The corrective action plan included requiring new staff to be trained on daycare philosophy and by experienced staff and behavioral guidance expectations reviewed with all staff. This corrective action was reviewed and accepted by Licensing. On July 4, 2023 Licensing received confirmation that each permanent staff member was notified on behavioral guidance expectations on May 2, 2023.
