A licensee must ensure that children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous to the health or safety of a child
Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined that sand in two sand boxes was construction stand and not safe for use by children.
Corrective action: Ensure children do not have access to any object or substance that may be hazardous. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On July 7, 2024, Licensee Contact submitted a corrective action plan to Licensing. The corrective action plan included that that children would not use the sandboxes until the sand had been removed and child safe sand had been added. The corrective action plan was reviewed and accepted by Licensing. On September 12, 2024, at a Complaint Follow Up inspection Licensing observed sand in two children's sandboxes has been removed and replace with child friendly washed masonry sand.
Without limiting subsection (1), a licensee must ensure that the ratio of employees to children attending a community care facility is no less than that permitted in Schedule E.
Observation: Through the investigation process, Licensing determined that staff ratios had not been maintained on June 4, 2024, for approximately ten minutes during lunch breaks.
Corrective action: Ensure that ratios of employees to children was no less than permitted in Schedule E. Action/s Required by Licensee: Licensee to submit a corrective action plan to Licensing specific to the contravention. Action/s Required by Licensing: On July 7, 2024, Licensee Contact submitted a corrective action plan to Licensing. The corrective action plan included all staff breaks would be covered by a staff with the same or higher qualification. If multiple staff were absent other staff from other BGCCVI facilities would be asked to work at this facility to ensure staff ratios were met at all times. This corrective action plan was reviewed and accepted by Licensing. On September 12, 2024, Licensing conducted an unscheduled on site follow up inspection and staffing at this facility was compliant with Schedule E of the Child Care Licensing Regulation.
