Observations & Corrective Actions

47: 12VAC5-421-1570.B 47 OUT 1570 The gaskets at the tall 1-door cooler were observed in a state of poor repair, with tears, and in a condition preventing easy cleaning. Furthermore, this was making the units not work properly as they were not easily or not fully closing well and found to be holding at 44-45 F with food holding at 42 F.
Corrective Actions: Correction: Within the next 90 days replace, or repair the torn gaskets at the coolers and clean all other gaskets if they are holding old food particles or grime. Ensure equipment is in proper operation, accuracy, functioning, maintenance, and cleanability.

Additional Comments

During today's inspection the following was discussed: cell phone use policy; hair & beard restraints; hand washing policy; employee / food handler health policy; monitoring food temperatures; handling orders with food allergens; storing chemicals below and away from food, food preparation, single-use food containers, to prevent accidental chemical contamination; etc.

This location has started selling bakery items from "Wendy Joy's Gluten Free Bakery" it was verified they are on the VDACS food facility list as a manufacturer in Lynchburg, VA during today's inspection. Allergen and ingredient lists from the manufacturer are posted at the pastry display case. The different items arrive at the food facility packaged separately.

Good job with staff hair restraints and great job with labeling foods such as honey or other foods outside of their original container in squirt bottles or glass jars with lids.

Reviewed the regulation for there to be a written vomiting and diarrheal clean up procedures (VDH / VDACS Guidance for clean-up June 2021 guidance previously emailed) and you already should have a clean up kit that is effective on norovirus (keep in kitchen across from the tall cold holding units); also you must post all pages of your most recent inspection OR post a sign saying inspection is available for viewing on request (QR Code sign is posted both at the an entrance door and on wall between retail store and café) - you can post this near your current food permit which also must be visible to the public / your customers (Permit expiring 2/2026 posted on wall near raised bar).
